The Ninevites
The Ninevites is a studio that tells stories of black culture & unheard voices of age-old traditions in a modern context. Their textiles are meticulously handcrafted by artisans in the Cape & Lima using 100% South African-grown mohair & Peruvian sheep wool. Empowered by their handicraft, these artisans hand spin & dye the raw fibre using techniques to ensure exceptional quality & durability. The objective of the Ninevites re-brand was to position the business in a modern perspective while still containing a sense of anarchy & rawness. This was resolved by creating a comprehensive brand system with hand-drawn elements that are utilised to mimic threads to juxtapose the rigid grid system. The brand mark is leveraged from a loom in combination with a rug that has been opened to lay flat. The shade of grey has been purposefully implemented to anchor imagery & push the beautiful bright imagery of the product to the forefront. Photography: Theodore Afrika | Animation: Nathan Fourie
